Judicial Custody Extended for Accused in Stone-Pelting Incident

On Thursday, a court in Delhi decided to extend the judicial custody of five individuals involved in the Turkman Gate stone-pelting incident for an additional 13 days. Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Pooja Suhag reminded the accused—Mohammad Kaif, Kasif, Areeb, Adnan, and Sameer—of their extended custody period. The accused were presented in court after spending one day in judicial custody. The court is scheduled to hear their bail applications on Friday.

Details of the Incident

The stone-pelting incident occurred on Wednesday during an anti-encroachment drive near Turkman Gate, where stones were reportedly thrown. Following the violence, the Delhi police registered an FIR and arrested all five accused on the same day. Advocates Nadim Khan represented Sameer and Adnan, while Asad Mirza Beg represented Areeb, Kasif, and Kaif.

Court Proceedings and Legal Developments

In accordance with judicial custody regulations, the court accepted a request from Advocate Abid Ahmed to provide winter clothing for the accused. This incident took place following directives from the Delhi High Court regarding an anti-encroachment campaign conducted by the MCD near the Faiz-e-Elahi mosque at Ramleela Maidan. To maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents, the Delhi police held several coordination meetings with members of the Aman Committee and other local stakeholders before the encroachment was cleared on the morning of January 7.

CCTV Footage Released

Meanwhile, the Delhi police released the first CCTV footage from Turkman Gate, which captured the scene during the incident. The footage shows the area near Faiz-e-Elahi mosque, with masked individuals fleeing as police advanced. It also depicts stone throwers running away while hurling stones at the police.
