Murder Conviction in Delhi's ISBT Incident

A man has been found guilty by a Delhi court for the murder of a young man during a late-night altercation at the Anand Vihar ISBT in 2017. Additional Sessions Judge Harvinder Singh stated that the prosecution successfully proved the charges against Shankar Lal beyond reasonable doubt.

According to the prosecution, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Shankar Lal under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code for the killing of Balbir Singh.

The prosecution detailed that on November 27, 2017, around 1:15 AM, Shankar Lal struck Balbir Singh on the head with a bamboo pole taken from a temporary barricade following a verbal dispute near the entrance of ISBT Anand Vihar.

After the initial blow, Balbir Singh fell, and while he was on the ground, Shankar Lal struck him again. Relying on medical and forensic evidence, the judge noted that the post-mortem indicated Balbir Singh died from injuries inflicted by a heavy object to the head.

The court dismissed the defense's argument that Balbir Singh was allegedly intoxicated and sustained fatal injuries from falling. The court asserted that the nature and extent of the injuries ruled out this possibility. Sentencing is scheduled for January 7.
