Comprehensive Emergency Response Exercise in Delhi

On Friday, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) organized an extensive mock drill aimed at evaluating the readiness of emergency services and government agencies to handle disasters in the national capital. This exercise took place simultaneously across 55 locations in 11 districts, with participation from various agencies, as reported by officials.

The mock drill commenced with a simulated earthquake scenario, followed by the introduction of a chemical leak situation in industrial and transportation sectors.

The primary goal of this exercise was to assess the preparedness for swift response and coordination during emergencies. Officials indicated that the drill was conducted in collaboration with Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and the National Capital Region (NCR).

Numerous personnel from various agencies, including fire services, police, and the revenue department, participated in rescue and relief operations at key sites such as Ramesh Nagar Metro Station, Mother International School, and Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital.

At RML Hospital, emergency response preparations for earthquake and industrial accident scenarios were practiced. Meanwhile, at Mother International School, drills were conducted to cut off gas and electricity connections upon detecting earthquake signals.

Collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in partnership with the Indian Army and the governments of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, concluded the exercise with a field-level mock drill. The DDMA stated in a release that it was responsible for coordinating this mock drill to evaluate the preparedness of Delhi-NCR in the event of an earthquake or industrial chemical disaster.
