Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Faces Death Threat: Security Measures Intensified

Security Heightened for Delhi Chief Minister

New Delhi/Ghaziabad: The security detail for Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was significantly enhanced on Friday following a death threat received via a call to the police control room in Ghaziabad, according to official reports.

The individual who issued the threat reportedly disconnected his mobile phone immediately after making the call to the police control room at 11 PM on Thursday, as stated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) in Ghaziabad.

The inter-state coordination unit of the Ghaziabad Police promptly alerted the Delhi Police regarding the threatening call directed at the Chief Minister.

Authorities have managed to identify the SIM card owner linked to the threatening call through collaboration with the telecom provider; however, the phone has remained inactive since the time of the threat.

This incident is expected to influence CM Rekha Gupta's public engagements, prompting an increase in her security measures.

Threats against Delhi's Chief Ministers are not unprecedented.

In 2019, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was assaulted by an autorickshaw driver who was dissatisfied with the unfulfilled election promises.

Earlier, in 2016, Kejriwal was targeted with black ink during an official function at Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi.

A woman associated with a Punjab group attacked him in protest against an alleged scam involving CNG vehicle stickers.

The incident occurred while Kejriwal was discussing the achievements of his government's 'odd-even' vehicle rationing initiative.

As the February 2025 Assembly elections approach, security concerns have escalated, highlighted by an incident where a liquid was thrown at Kejriwal during a padyatra in the Savitri Nagar area of Malviya Nagar in Delhi.
