Concerns Raised by Delhi's Chief Minister

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of Delhi expressed her worries regarding recent reports of mistreatment faced by women from the Northeast in Malviya Nagar. She became aware of the incident through various tags and videos shared by influencers on social media. In a video message posted on Instagram, CM Gupta stated, 'I have learned about the incident involving our sisters from the Northeast in Malviya Nagar. Some influencers have tagged me in their videos.'


Commitment to Address the Issue

CM Gupta further mentioned her intention to meet with the affected women soon. She emphasized that residents from the Northeast have the same rights in Delhi, the nation's capital, as anyone else from different states. People from border states come to Delhi to work hard and contribute to the city's growth, and any form of abuse against them will not be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against the perpetrators.


Plans for Community Engagement

Additionally, Gupta expressed her desire to engage extensively with the Northeastern community in Delhi to address systemic issues and ensure their safety through potential policy interventions. 'I will not only meet with these sisters but also with other residents from the Northeast to listen to their concerns and provide solutions. Police Action Taken

Earlier on the same day, Delhi police reported the arrest of Ruby Jain and her husband Harsh in connection with alleged racial abuse and criminal threats against three women from Arunachal Pradesh in Malviya Nagar. According to the police, the investigation is currently being conducted by an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and is under close supervision by senior officials.
