Kejriwal's Allegations Against the Central Government

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has accused the central government of allegedly pressuring automobile manufacturers regarding the compatibility of vehicles with E20 petrol. He expressed concerns that vehicles manufactured before 2023 could suffer damage and performance issues when using E20 petrol.

Kejriwal Questions Government's Intentions

Kejriwal raised questions about the government's intentions in this matter. He claimed that the government is exerting pressure on automakers to demonstrate that their vehicles are compatible with E20 petrol. According to him, if manufacturers fail to confirm this compatibility, the government may compel them to comply with new regulations. He also warned that older vehicles using E20 petrol could incur damage.

BJP Responds to Kejriwal's Claims

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has outrightly dismissed Kejriwal's allegations. Citing statements from leading industrialists, the BJP asserted that E20 petrol is completely safe. The party emphasized that extensive testing and verification have confirmed that E20 petrol is not harmful to vehicles. They highlighted that the automotive sector supports the E20 initiative and labeled Kejriwal's claims as baseless.

Understanding E20 Petrol

E20 petrol is a blend of 20% ethanol and 80% gasoline. The Indian government is promoting ethanol blending to enhance environmental conditions and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. As part of this initiative, the sale of E20 petrol commenced nationwide on April 1, 2023.
