Delhi CM Accuses Opposition Leader of Disrespecting Sikh Guru
Controversy Erupts Over Comments on Sikh Guru
On Wednesday, Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta accused opposition leader Atishi of making 'shameful and disrespectful' remarks regarding a Sikh guru during a session of the Delhi Assembly.
Gupta urged Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta to take action against Atishi. In response, Atishi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of engaging in narrow-minded politics by invoking the name of the Sikh guru.
In a statement on 'X', Rekha Gupta expressed her deep hurt over Atishi's comments about Guru Tegh Bahadur, labeling them as 'shameful and disrespectful.'
She stated, 'This disgraceful and inappropriate remark has offended not only the Sikh community but also the sentiments of people across the nation.'
Gupta mentioned that several ministers, legislators, and a delegation from the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee met with her to express their objections to Atishi's comments.
She added, 'I request the Assembly Speaker to take cognizance of this matter and make an appropriate decision, ensuring that actions align with the dignity of the House, constitutional values, and public sentiments.'
BJP legislators have called for the cancellation of Atishi's membership in the Assembly.
