Delhi Chief Minister Reduces Official Convoy to Promote Fuel Efficiency
Significant Reduction in Official Vehicles
In a move reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for fuel efficiency and responsible resource usage, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Thursday a drastic reduction in her official convoy, now comprising only four vehicles, a 60% decrease.
The revamped convoy includes two electric vehicles (EVs), marking a significant shift towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation for official duties. This decision follows Prime Minister Modi's seven appeals to citizens aimed at reducing reliance on imported fuel amidst the ongoing conflict in West Asia and embracing eco-friendly alternatives to contribute to economic stability.
Prime Minister's Appeals for Sustainable Practices
While addressing a gathering in Secunderabad, Modi urged citizens to prioritize working from home, minimize fuel consumption, avoid international travel for a year, adopt indigenous products, reduce cooking oil usage, shift towards natural farming, and refrain from purchasing gold.
To tackle fuel price volatility, Modi has called for a transformation in transportation methods across India. He encouraged the public to utilize metro and public transport whenever possible to decrease petrol and diesel usage, opt for carpooling when private vehicles are necessary, prioritize rail transport for goods, and increase the use of electric vehicles.
Government Vehicle Restrictions Implemented
In alignment with Prime Minister Modi's message, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered a ban on government vehicles used by ministers, legislators, and other public representatives. This initiative aims to support the Prime Minister's appeals.
Gupta also urged Delhi residents to adopt carpooling or use public transport. In a late-night post on X, she stated that considering the current global situation, the Prime Minister has called for a public movement to save petrol and diesel and conserve energy. Embracing this significant appeal, she has decided to limit the number of vehicles used for departmental work, encouraging all cabinet colleagues, BJP legislators, public representatives, and Delhi government officials to prioritize minimal vehicle usage and carpooling.
