Delhi Chief Minister Launches Cleanliness Drive to Combat Waste

Initiation of the Cleanliness Campaign

On Friday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta kicked off a month-long cleanliness initiative titled 'Freedom from Waste for Delhi' by sweeping the streets. As part of this campaign, she visited the Women and Child Development Department.

Inspection of Department Facilities

During her visit to the department's office located at Kashmiri Gate, Gupta expressed her disappointment, stating, 'This is my first visit to this office, and it saddens me to see our officials working in such a building. The fans could fall at any moment, and water is dripping from the ceiling.'

Cleaning Efforts by the Chief Minister

Gupta inspected every corner of the office, cleared electronic waste, discarded old posters and files, and swept away the dirt. She remarked, 'This building caught fire in 2021, yet no repairs have been made.'

Criticism of Previous Government

Targeting the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Gupta criticized them for spending millions on 'building glass palaces' while neglecting the condition of government offices.

Plans for a New Secretariat

The Chief Minister expressed her sorrow over the current state of the office and announced that the process of constructing a new secretariat would commence immediately, where all departments would be housed. She stated, 'We will identify a location for the new secretariat.'

Details of the Cleanliness Campaign

Discussing the campaign, she mentioned that it began with all departments cleaning their offices. Gupta added, 'We have removed electronic waste, old files, and junk from here. We also need to reconsider the rules related to tenders for waste removal.'
