Surprise Inspection by Chief Minister

On Thursday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted an unexpected inspection of the Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital located on Rajpur Road in Civil Lines. The purpose of her visit was to evaluate the services provided to patients and the availability of doctors.

During her tour, she reviewed various aspects including the outpatient department, wards, medication distribution center, sanitation protocols, water supply, and the status of digital services. She also engaged directly with patients and their families.

Patient Complaints and Immediate Actions

Several elderly patients expressed their frustrations about waiting in long queues since morning without receiving adequate care. In response, Gupta expressed her displeasure and instructed hospital officials to ensure sufficient seating arrangements and implement an effective token system to reduce waiting times.

She highlighted several issues, including a shortage of doctors, overcrowding in outpatient services, and flaws in the online appointment system. Despite the availability of digital booking, patients still faced long waits, prompting her to order the integration of online and offline systems to minimize delays.

Medication Availability and Vaccination Concerns

Patients also raised concerns about the unavailability of medications, forcing them to purchase drugs from outside sources. Gupta took this matter seriously, demanding an immediate verification of stock registers and declaring a 'zero tolerance' policy regarding the availability of medicines and vaccines. She emphasized that any medication needed today should be provided without delay.

Additionally, she inspected the vaccination unit where several patients were receiving rabies and other vaccines, directing officials to ensure a continuous supply of essential vaccines.

Addressing Hygiene and Basic Facilities

Patients and their companions voiced worries about cleanliness, water supply, and toilet facilities. Gupta reprimanded officials for these shortcomings and instructed immediate corrective actions, stating that poor hygiene and lack of basic amenities in hospitals are unacceptable.

She ordered administrative reforms to enhance accountability in health services, which include mandatory biometric attendance for doctors and staff, as well as the compulsory display of nameplates during duty hours. Gupta also expressed concern over the rising cases of hepatitis and directed doctors to suggest measures for testing and prevention.
