Key Priorities Outlined by Delhi's Chief Minister
On Friday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of Delhi emphasized her government's focus on planned development, pollution control, expansion of health services, and a shift towards electric vehicles during a session in the Delhi Assembly. She also launched a sharp critique against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Addressing the assembly, Gupta stated that her administration provides clear information to the public regarding its direction and objectives. Identifying pollution as a critical issue for the national capital, she affirmed the government's commitment to completing the construction of 1,100 health temples across Delhi as part of its health service roadmap. Additionally, she mentioned that new nursing staff have already been recruited to strengthen the healthcare system.
Regarding the crisis of the Yamuna River, the Chief Minister noted that efforts are underway to treat the drains flowing into the river and improve the sewage system. She asserted that every commitment outlined in their manifesto will be fulfilled. Gupta further stated that the repair of Delhi's roads will be conducted in an organized and systematic manner, emphasizing that development work cannot be completed overnight and will be executed in phases.
Highlighting the government's initiatives to promote clean transportation, Gupta explained that the aim is to transition public transport entirely to electric vehicles. She reported that the target of increasing the number of electric buses in Delhi is being consistently met. In a significant financial announcement, the Chief Minister revealed that the Delhi government has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which will act as the government's official banking and financial agent. Under this arrangement, the RBI will assist the government in obtaining loans at lower interest rates from the market for capital expenditures. Gupta stated, "No work in Delhi will be stalled due to budget constraints now."
She added that the management of surplus funds will also be handled by the RBI. According to her, ₹15,000 crores have already been deposited into a public account, which will be utilized for the state's capital expenditures. Targeting the AAP, Gupta accused the party of being uncomfortable with a woman leading the state and alleged that its leaders selectively edited her speeches and circulated misleading videos.
