Significant Changes to Water Infrastructure Charges

On Friday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of Delhi revealed substantial reforms to the infrastructure fees imposed by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). During a press conference, she stated, "We have made a crucial decision to fully rationalize the infrastructure fees levied by the Delhi Jal Board. From now on, these fees for water and sewer services will be based solely on actual water requirements... The charges will reflect the necessity for water. Infrastructure fees will only apply to new constructions or expansions... Water needs in open areas will not be included in these fees.

Inauguration of Modern Park in Burari

Later that day, CM Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stone for the modern Mukhmelpur Park in Burari, which is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹1 crore. She mentioned on social media that this park, spanning approximately 3 acres, will feature walking paths, pavilions, a pond, and modern public amenities. Additionally, on Thursday, she announced the resumption of the process for issuing new ration cards starting May 15, ending a wait of nearly 13 years. She encouraged eligible families to apply, emphasizing that the Delhi government is implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Antyodaya to ensure welfare benefits reach those who need them the most. Online applications for new ration cards and adding family members began on May 15 through the e-district portal. Previously submitted applications have also been returned to applicants via their login profiles.

Public Distribution System Audit Reveals Irregularities

Applicants can update and resubmit their applications with valid family income certificates and other necessary documents. CM Gupta noted that since taking office, the government has conducted a comprehensive audit of the public distribution system, uncovering significant irregularities. A total of 771,384 ineligible beneficiaries were identified, with 646,123 found to have incomes exceeding the prescribed limits, thus disqualifying them from subsidized rations. Furthermore, 95,682 beneficiaries had not availed of ration benefits for over a year. A press release issued on Thursday indicated that 6,185 deceased individuals were still listed in the ration records, while 23,394 beneficiaries were receiving benefits from multiple locations.
