A Day of Athletic Celebration in Delhi

New Delhi, June 22: The capital city came alive with energy as it hosted a Special Olympic Day Run, part of the International Olympic Committee's global initiative 'Let's Move'. This vibrant event attracted thousands of participants, showcasing the enthusiasm for sports among Delhi residents.


Delhi's Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, attended the event and expressed her pride in the community's involvement, sharing her aspirations for the future of sports in India.


"I am thrilled to see such a large turnout for this Olympic run," she remarked.


She emphasized that under Prime Minister Modi's guidance, the nation is progressing towards nurturing better athletes, enhancing infrastructure, and improving facilities. "Delhi is poised to host the 2036 Olympics, and we are committed to developing the necessary infrastructure. Athletes from every village and state are receiving excellent support from the central government," she added.


The event was chaired by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, highlighting its significance.


PT Usha, a key advocate for the Olympic movement in India, remarked on the day's importance, stating, "Today, we celebrate the Olympic spirit across our nation." She noted that the event not only honors the modern Olympic movement but also embodies the values of excellence, unity, and perseverance.


On June 20, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood, attended the launch of the World Para Athletics Championships.


During this event, the logo and mascot for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships were unveiled, marking the start of the '100 Days to Go' countdown. The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) hosted the event.


A PCI announcement revealed that the new mascot, Viraaj, is a young elephant with a blade prosthesis, symbolizing strength, optimism, and resilience. The logo reflects India's rich heritage and the vibrant spirit of para-athletics in New Delhi.


Chief Minister Gupta expressed pride in hosting a global event that celebrates courage and human potential. "The logo and mascot beautifully embody the essence of India and the power of para sports. We are committed to making New Delhi 2025 a landmark event for inclusivity and excellence," she stated.
