Delhi Capitals Cricket Academy Expands to Seattle, USA
Global Expansion of Delhi Capitals Cricket Academy
In a significant move to enhance its international footprint, the Delhi Capitals Cricket Academy has inaugurated a new center in Seattle, USA. This facility will implement the academy's established coaching curriculum and technical framework, aimed at fostering structured training, performance monitoring, and the long-term development of players.
Collaboration with Seattle Thunderbolts Academy
The Seattle center will collaborate with the Seattle Thunderbolts Academy, which was founded in 2021 and has evolved from a Minor League Cricket team into a recognized cricket establishment in the United States. The Thunderbolts clinched the Minor League Cricket Championship in 2022 and currently trains over 200 young cricketers, contributing to a robust grassroots cricket ecosystem that encompasses youth, adult, and women's cricket. The organization oversees six cricket grounds, including turf wickets, ensuring a solid foundation for regular training and competitive play in the Pacific Northwest.
Strategic Goals of the Partnership
This partnership is part of a larger initiative to create a connected network across various regions, focusing on establishing clearer pathways for players and coaches. It will provide access to training camps, exposure opportunities, and knowledge sharing within the global academy ecosystem of Delhi Capitals.
Leadership Insights on the Expansion
Delhi Capitals CEO Sunil Gupta commented on this development, stating, "Expanding our academy network in the United States is a crucial step towards building a sustainable global development ecosystem. Our aim is to create clear pathways, share best practices, and support young cricketers in their pursuit of excellence."
Phani Chitneni, Co-Owner of Seattle Thunderbolts Academy, expressed, "This partnership marks a significant advancement in extending the Delhi Capitals Academy ecosystem beyond India into one of the fastest-growing cricket markets globally. Collaborating with Seattle Thunderbolts Academy provides a strong grassroots presence in the Pacific Northwest, supported by an established cricket organization with quality infrastructure and community outreach. This partnership introduces structured coaching methodologies and professional standards, linking local cricket development in the US to the broader cricket ecosystem."
Creating Opportunities for Pacific Northwest Players
Vijay Beniwal, Co-Owner of Seattle Thunderbolts Academy, added, "This collaboration establishes a clear pathway for young players in the Pacific Northwest. They will gain from structured coaching, skill development programs, fitness training, mentorship, and exposure to a high-performance environment. A player starting at the grassroots level in Seattle can now advance through academy programs, competitive cricket, and opportunities that connect to the larger professional cricket ecosystem. This partnership is designed to support long-term development by providing access to training, evaluation, and exchange opportunities."
Enhancing Cricket Infrastructure in the US
Phani Chitneni further noted, "For cricket to thrive in the United States, robust academy infrastructure, professional training programs, quality coaching, and clear pathways for young players are essential. This partnership between Seattle Thunderbolts Academy and Delhi Capitals Academy is a step in that direction, emphasizing structured development and long-term opportunities."
Broadening the Global Academy Network
With this new center, the Delhi Capitals continue to expand their presence both in India and internationally, establishing a network of academies in key locations. In India, they operate centers at Conscient Sports in NCR, American EduGlobal in Ghaziabad, and The Sports School in Bengaluru. Internationally, their network includes the Delhi Capitals Sajid Mahmood Cricket Academy in London and the Ontario Cricket Academy in Mississauga, with the Thunderbolts Cricket Academy in Seattle now marking the United States as another vital hub.
