Delhi Capitals Coach Urges Team Improvement After Loss to CSK
Coach Hemang Badani Reflects on Team's Performance
Following an eight-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday, Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Hemang Badani addressed the team's recent challenges and emphasized the need for enhancements. He evaluated the performances of key players, including Kuldeep Yadav and captain Axar Patel, while underscoring the significance of team unity as the season approaches its conclusion.
Kuldeep Yadav's Form Under Scrutiny
Regarding Kuldeep Yadav's current performance, Badani noted that the left-arm spinner has yet to reach his optimal form. He stated, "It's about finding rhythm. He hasn't bowled at his usual speeds yet, but we believe in him and know it’s just a matter of time." During the post-match press conference, he expressed optimism despite the team's struggles, saying, "We must win all four remaining matches to have a shot at qualification."
Praise for Captain Axar Patel
Badani also commended skipper Axar Patel for his bowling performance, highlighting his experience as a double World Cup winner. He remarked, "Axar knows how to handle pressure, and we trust him completely." Reflecting on Axar's bowling figures of 4 overs for 24 runs, he added, "If we had managed to score an additional 15 to 20 runs, it would have changed the dynamics of the game."
Need for Collective Improvement
When discussing the overall performance of DC, Badani emphasized the necessity for team-wide enhancement rather than focusing on individual players. He pointed out, "In one match, we scored 265 but couldn't defend it. In another, we lost by just one run. It's not about one player; we need to improve as a unit. That’s the reality." He acknowledged the inconsistencies across various departments, admitting that the team has struggled to find balance. "One day we bowl well but fail to bat effectively, and on another day, the opposite occurs. At this level, we need at least 60 to 70 percent of our players to contribute on any given day, which has been lacking," he explained.
Urgency as Season Nears Conclusion
As the season draws to a close, Badani stressed the urgency of the situation. "We all recognize the stakes. It's crunch time, and we need to win all four matches. Everyone in the dressing room understands what is required. It’s straightforward now: perform and finish strong."
