Security Enhancements in Delhi Assembly

Following a recent security lapse, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has mandated significant improvements to the security protocols within the assembly premises. He emphasized that even minor oversights will not be tolerated and highlighted the need for security measures to be based on vigilance, clear accountability, and robust coordination.

A high-level review meeting was convened with senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Delhi government's Home Department, Delhi Police, Intelligence Bureau, Traffic Police, and the Public Works Department. A thorough investigation of the incident, including CCTV footage, was conducted.

Speaker Gupta pointed out that this incident has clearly exposed flaws in the system and underscored the urgent need to strengthen security measures. He has instructed that hydraulic road blockers be installed at all entry points to prevent unauthorized vehicles from entering.

He also mandated strict access control measures and increased surveillance within the premises, stressing that no vehicle should be allowed entry without proper checks and permissions under any circumstances.

Gupta directed that at least two trained personnel from Delhi Police or CRPF should be stationed at each entry and exit point, fully equipped and with clearly defined responsibilities. He emphasized that ground-level coordination must remain smooth and vigilant at all times.

To ensure rapid response, the Speaker has ordered the deployment of a mobile patrol vehicle within the assembly grounds. He stated that security cannot rely solely on static guards and must remain proactive and dynamic to effectively respond to any situation. He also stressed the need to reinforce physical infrastructure, ensuring that all gates are robust enough to prevent any forced entry, alongside additional reinforcement measures including hydraulic barriers.
