Urgent Repairs Ordered for NH-27 Following Fatal Accidents

JORABAT, Sept 5: Public frustration is mounting over the deteriorating condition of NH-27, especially after a tragic accident on Sunday that resulted in seven fatalities. In response, the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) convened on Thursday and mandated that potholes along this critical route be repaired within a week.
This special session took place at the Dimoria Co-District Commissioner’s office, where the committee also discussed strategies to tackle the persistent flash-flood issues affecting NH-27. Additionally, plans were made to construct a service lane connecting Sonapur Bali Gate to Sonapur District Hospital.
The committee emphasized the need for stringent monitoring of illegal parking on NH-27 and NH-6, which has been a significant contributor to traffic congestion and safety hazards for drivers and pedestrians alike.
Key attendees included Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner Swapneel Paul, Dimoria MLA Dr. Tapan Das, Dimoria Co-District Commissioner Kangkan Sharma, along with officials from various departments and local community representatives.
The urgency of these measures follows the recent Nalgedera accident, where a passenger vehicle collided with a truck, leading to widespread protests. Demonstrators have been calling for a halt to toll collection at the Nazirakhat toll plaza until necessary repairs are completed.
In the meantime, officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have been inspecting the highway for potholes and water accumulation, promising that repair efforts will commence promptly.
