Sonapur, Sept 18: The melodies of Zubeen Garg filled the air at Zubeen Kshetra on Friday, marking the second day of the three-day Zubeen Divas celebration, which transformed into a heartfelt musical homage to the artist.
Under the theme ‘Geete-Mate Zubeen Bandana’, the day's events showcased various performers and cultural groups interpreting some of Garg's beloved songs, attracting numerous fans to the memorial site at Kamarkuchi.
The festivities commenced at noon and continued into the evening, drawing attendees from all corners of the state.
“The cultural event has been ongoing since noon, with participants ranging from children to seniors. The organizing committee has ensured that numerous performers get their chance to shine,” shared Garima Saikia Garg, Zubeen's wife.
“Performances of Zubeen's songs will be complemented by dance routines,” she added.
The Kshetra was bustling with fans throughout the day, many singing along to Garg's hits while artists created sketches and paintings in his honor. Some attendees brought handwoven gamosas inscribed with lyrics from his songs as tributes.
The memorial was adorned with flowers and gamosas, with arrangements made to welcome visitors for the three-day event.
The musical homage followed the opening day of Zubeen Divas, which began with an interfaith prayer and Naam-Prasanga. On the inaugural day, Garg's wife also visited the memorial to pay her respects.
This three-day event, commemorating Garg a year after his passing, is organized by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, in partnership with the Kalaguru Artists Foundation, and will conclude on Saturday.
The final day will focus on spiritual and traditional cultural practices, featuring Bhagawat Naam during the day and a Bhaona performance in the evening.
