Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth Appointed as New Chief of Army Staff

New Delhi, Jun 13: The Defence Ministry has officially announced that Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth will succeed as the Chief of the Army Staff.
Currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army, Lt Gen Seth is set to assume his new role on June 30, coinciding with the retirement of Gen Upendra Dwivedi.
A graduate of the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, he was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986.
With a military career spanning nearly 40 years, he possesses vast experience in operational, strategic, capability development, and institutional areas.
Throughout his career, Lt Gen Seth has held command positions in various operational settings, including an Armoured Regiment in the desert, an Armoured Brigade in the Western Theatre, and a counter-insurgency unit in Jammu & Kashmir.
As a Lieutenant General, he led the Sudarshan Chakra Corps, recognized as one of the Indian Army's elite strike formations.
He later took on the role of General Officer Commanding for the Delhi Area, where he managed significant national and international military events and ceremonial duties.
After being promoted to Army Commander, he led both the South Western Command and Southern Command, achieving the unique distinction of overseeing two operational Army Commands for over two and a half years.
His extensive experience includes numerous key staff and strategic roles that have greatly impacted operational planning, force management, and capability enhancement.
