Lieutenant General NS Subramani Appointed as New Chief of Defence Staff

The Government of India has appointed Lieutenant General NS Subramani as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). He will succeed General Anil Chauhan, whose term concludes on May 30.

Currently, Lieutenant General Subramani serves as a military advisor at the National Security Council Secretariat, a role he has held since September 1, 2025.

Prior to this, he was the Vice Chief of Army Staff from July 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025, and commanded the Central Command from March 2023 to June 2024.

Lieutenant General Subramani boasts over 37 years of military experience, demonstrating his capabilities at both strategic and operational levels.

He was commissioned into the prestigious 'The Garhwal Rifles' in December 1985.

Before his current appointment, he worked as a military advisor at the National Security Council Secretariat starting September 1, 2025.

He held the position of Deputy Chief of Army Staff from July 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025.

Additionally, he led the Indian Army's Central Command as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief from March 2023 to June 2024.
