The Government of India has appointed Lieutenant General NS Subramani as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). He will succeed General Anil Chauhan, whose term concludes on May 30.


Currently, Lieutenant General Subramani serves as a military advisor at the National Security Council Secretariat, a role he has held since September 1, 2025.


Prior to this, he was the Vice Chief of Army Staff from July 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025, and commanded the Central Command from March 2023 to June 2024.
