General NS Raja Subramani Assumes Role as Chief of Defence Staff
The Government of India has officially appointed General NS Raja Subramani as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding former CDS General Anil Chauhan. Prior to this role, he played a crucial part as a military advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat, contributing significantly to the nation's security strategy. As the new CDS, he will be tasked with enhancing coordination among the three armed forces and modernizing the military.
Commitment to PM's Vision 'JAI'
Upon taking office, General Subramani expressed his honor in receiving this responsibility. He stated, "The Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Ministry of Defence will collaborate to strengthen national security. We are fully prepared to implement the Prime Minister's vision of 'JAI'—Jointness, Atmanirbharata (self-reliance), and Innovation." He emphasized that fostering self-reliance in the military is vital for national security and pledged to promote indigenous weaponry.
Educational Background and Military Training
General Subramani, who joined the 8th Battalion of the Garhwal Rifles on December 14, 1985, has a distinguished academic background, having studied at the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy. He has also received military education both in India and abroad, including training at the Joint Services Command and Staff College in the UK. He holds an MA from King's College London and an M.Phil in Defence Studies from the University of Madras.
Extensive Experience on Sensitive Borders
With extensive experience leading troops along India's most sensitive borders, General Subramani has commanded operations against insurgency, including 'Operation Rhino' in Assam. He has also led an infantry brigade in Jammu and Kashmir and commanded the Mountain Division in the Central Sector. Notably, he has held command of the Indian Army's main strike corps, '2 Corps,' on the Western Front and has served as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff.
Expertise in Foreign Affairs and Intelligence
In addition to his field leadership, General Subramani has held several significant diplomatic positions. He has represented India as a Defence Attaché in Kazakhstan and has served as the Deputy Director General of Military Intelligence at the Ministry of Defence. While serving as Chief of Staff of the Northern Command, he closely monitored challenges along both the China and Pakistan borders.

For his exemplary and dedicated service to the nation, General Subramani has been awarded numerous prestigious military honors by the President of India, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Army Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal.
