This event is notable as it represents the first successful breeding of this species at the facility, highlighting the state's ongoing efforts in ex-situ breeding.

The breeding pair was transferred from Aizawl Zoological Park in Mizoram as part of an animal exchange initiative, according to officials on Friday.

The stump-tailed macaque is classified as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and is threatened by habitat destruction, fragmentation, and human interference.

The newborn macaque is reported to be healthy and is currently under the vigilant care of the zoo's veterinary team, remaining with its mother and troop, as per officials.
