Enhanced Security Measures at Red Fort Ahead of Independence Day

New Delhi, Aug 3: In preparation for the upcoming Independence Day festivities, security forces in Delhi have intensified their operations around the Red Fort following a bomb threat email directed to the Mayor's office, warning of potential explosions on August 15, according to an official report.
Upon receiving the alarming email, the Mayor's office promptly notified the Delhi Police and relevant security agencies.
In response, police units, bomb disposal teams, and other security personnel swiftly arrived at the Red Fort to conduct a thorough inspection and sanitization of the area, as stated by the official.
Sources within the Delhi Police indicated that security measures were heightened in the vicinity, and an investigation was promptly initiated.
Investigators are currently working to identify the sender of the threatening email.
This incident follows a similar bomb threat on July 11, which also prompted a significant security response, ultimately deemed a hoax after extensive checks.
Last month’s threat originated from a phone call to the Mumbai Police Control Room, where the caller allegedly threatened to detonate explosives at the Red Fort. This information was quickly communicated to the Delhi Police, leading to immediate security actions.
After a comprehensive search, police officials confirmed that no suspicious items or explosives were found, affirming that the threat was unfounded.
On August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to deliver a speech from the Red Fort, marking the nation’s 80th Independence Day celebration.
The government has invited citizens to contribute their thoughts and policy suggestions for the Prime Minister's upcoming address, with submissions accepted via the MyGov Portal until August 12.
