Guwahati, May 8: The Assam administration has initiated steps to connect various state databases with the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) following a significant review meeting led by the Union Home Secretary last Friday.

In the aftermath of this meeting, the Chief Secretary of Assam instructed different state departments to accelerate the necessary preparations for this integration.

On social media, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota shared, “Post the Union Home Secretary's meeting, I have directed all relevant departments in the Assam government to identify and map their databases for integration with NATGRID, adhering to the established protocols and technical specifications.”

This initiative aims to bolster real-time intelligence sharing, enhance coordination for internal security, and improve data access for law enforcement and intelligence agencies nationwide.

Officials indicated that the meeting assessed the progress of integrating various databases from states and union territories with NATGRID and deliberated on adding more data streams for secure access by authorized entities.

In Assam, the databases earmarked for integration include Smart City data, utility billing information, land and property registration records, crime statistics, licensing information, educational datasets, and databases related to beneficiary schemes.

This initiative is part of a larger effort by the central government to establish a cohesive and secure framework for intelligence sharing, facilitating quicker access to vital information for law enforcement and security agencies.

Kota emphasized the growing adoption of the NATGRID platform, noting that states and union territories are progressively increasing their engagement with it.

“The meeting also acknowledged the rising utilization of the NATGRID platform by various states and UTs, along with ongoing training programs for police and enforcement personnel across the nation,” Kota added.

He underscored the necessity for timely coordination among departments and technical readiness to ensure the successful execution of the integration process.

The virtual meeting was chaired by the Union Home Secretary and included Chief Secretaries and Advisors to Administrators from various states and union territories, as well as senior police officials, including the Director General of Police from Assam.

NATGRID, which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs and has been sanctioned by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), serves as a secure platform for intelligence sharing aimed at enhancing national and internal security, including counter-terrorism efforts.
