GUWAHATI, May 22: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), based in Maligaon, announced on Wednesday that the Amrit Bharat Express trains operating in Assam and West Bengal have seen significant patronage, transporting over 178,000 passengers and generating revenue exceeding Rs 23 crore in recent months.


According to NFR officials, the launch of the modern and passenger-centric Amrit Bharat Express trains from various stations in Assam and West Bengal has proven to be a remarkable success for Indian Railways, garnering widespread acclaim and a positive response from travelers nationwide. The notable occupancy rates and revenue figures indicate the increasing popularity, affordability, comfort, and reliability of these services among passengers. The Amrit Bharat Express routes connect vital destinations such as Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Alipurduar Junction, and New Jalpaiguri with major cities across India, showcasing impressive passenger engagement since their debut in January 2026. Some services have reported occupancy levels surpassing 100%, underscoring the high demand and preference for these trains among travelers,” stated Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR.


Currently, there are seven pairs of Amrit Bharat Express trains operating from Assam and West Bengal under NFR's jurisdiction.


“These services have been met with enthusiastic passenger support and are significantly enhancing rail connectivity between the Northeast and various regions of the country. Notably, Train No 15671/15672 Amrit Bharat Express, which runs between Kamakhya and Rohtak, has experienced remarkable passenger numbers, with utilization reaching 136%. Similarly, Train No 15949/15950, connecting Dibrugarh and Gomti Nagar, has recorded occupancy rates exceeding 140% on several occasions. Over this period, these trains have transported more than 178,000 passengers and generated earnings of over Rs 23 crore, marking a significant achievement for these services,” Sharma added.


He further noted, “The Amrit Bharat trains are designed with the common passenger in mind, offering enhanced comfort and an improved travel experience through modern interiors, upgraded amenities, spacious seating, and affordable fares. These services not only enhance passenger convenience but also play a crucial role in regional development, tourism promotion, and economic integration by bolstering connectivity between the Northeast and the rest of India.”
