New Delhi, Sep 14: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remarked on Monday that the recent 18th BRICS Summit has made a significant impact on the global arena, emphasizing that the New Delhi declaration is a reflection of India's increasing influence worldwide.
The summit, held from September 12 to 13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, focused on the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability'. All member nations unanimously endorsed the New Delhi Declaration.
In a post on X, Singh stated, "The historic BRICS Summit has successfully concluded in New Delhi. Under the visionary leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi, India has prioritized Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability as key themes during its chairmanship of BRICS."
He further noted, "India has emphasized connecting BRICS cooperation directly with the populace, showcasing an inclusive and human-centric approach that defined the summit in New Delhi."
Singh described the signing of the New Delhi Declaration as a "significant achievement," asserting that it symbolizes India's expanding global stature under PM Modi's leadership.
He added, "India has positioned the Global South at the forefront, advocating for a more inclusive and balanced global order. Our civilizational principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam illustrates that true leadership is about fostering consensus rather than merely raising one's voice. As India leads, the world pays attention."
Singh congratulated PM Modi for the summit's remarkable success, stating that it has indeed made a lasting impression on the international stage.
The BRICS nations adopted the 'New Delhi Declaration', which praised India for facilitating the Outreach/BRICS Plus Dialogue segment of the summit, noting that India's leadership has provided "new momentum" for enhancing international cooperation and solidarity.
Leaders from the member countries reiterated their dedication to the BRICS principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality, solidarity, democracy, openness, inclusiveness, collaboration, and consensus.
The consensus on a Joint Statement on the summit's first day was hailed as a "major diplomatic achievement," especially given the differing geopolitical stances of the participating nations.
The declaration also included a strong denunciation of the Pahalgam terror attack, with a collective agreement to adopt a zero-tolerance stance towards terrorism.
Furthermore, the New Delhi Declaration reaffirmed the commitment of member countries to enhance cooperation across three key areas: political and security, economic and financial, and cultural and people-to-people interactions, aiming to strengthen their strategic partnership for the benefit of their citizens through the promotion of peace, a more equitable international order, a revitalized multilateral system, sustainable development, and inclusive growth.
