Debunking the Viral Claim: The Simpsons Did Not Predict Trump's Death
The Misleading Image of The Simpsons
A misleading image that has gone viral on social media suggests that the animated series The Simpsons foretold the death of Donald Trump on March 14, 2026. This assertion is incorrect. The image depicts characters Homer and Lisa Simpson gazing at a television screen that states "Trump dead," with a ticker below indicating "Donald Trump 1946–2026" and claiming he passed away on that date. As the date drew nearer, the post gained traction, prompting users to speculate whether the iconic show had once again predicted a significant event. One user questioned, "Could this Simpson prophecy be true? We'll find out," while another remarked, "It's written... Trump will die." A third user inquired, "Did The Simpsons really predict something major happening to Donald Trump on March 14, 2026?" Despite the buzz, the claim has been thoroughly debunked.
Users on X provided clarification regarding the viral image, asserting that it was not sourced from any episode of The Simpsons but was instead created using artificial intelligence. A note accompanying the image stated, "This image is not from The Simpsons. It is a fabricated hoax, and the show did not predict Donald Trump's death on March 14, 2026. Showrunners confirmed no such episode exists." The AI chatbot Grok also weighed in on the matter, stating, "It's a fake. That Simpsons image is doctored/AI-generated hoax material—never aired in any episode. Similar viral fakes have circulated for years claiming Trump predictions. No actual prophecy, just meme bait on a slow news day. Trump is alive and well as of now."
The false claim gained momentum during a period when Trump was involved in a conflict with Iran. Recently, he announced that US forces had targeted locations on Kharg Island, a crucial site for Iran’s oil exports. This conflict escalated following joint strikes by the United States and Israel that reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Additionally, there has been speculation regarding the president’s health, with some observers noting bruises on his hand and a rash on his neck, although the White House has maintained that he is in "perfect health."
While the current viral claim is unfounded, The Simpsons has previously attracted attention for scenes that seemed to predict future events. In the episode Bart to the Future, Lisa Simpson, who becomes US president, mentions inheriting a "budget crunch from President Trump." A 2015 short titled Trumptastic Voyage also included a sign referencing "Trump 2024." The show has been associated with other apparent coincidences, such as predicting the future acquisition of Fox by Disney. However, the creators of the series have consistently stated that the show does not predict the future, and many cited examples are merely coincidences or altered images.
