The convict, Umesh, attempted to assault his own sister-in-law and, upon failing, tried to set her ablaze. The court deemed this case as one of the 'rarest of rare' and imposed a fine of ₹1.30 lakh on him.

The horrifying incident occurred on March 11, 2025. Umesh, a resident of Palwal in Haryana, had gone to his sister-in-law's home in a village under the jurisdiction of the Farah police station in Mathura. Disguised in women's clothing, he attempted to commit rape. When the woman resisted fiercely, Umesh doused her with a flammable liquid and set her on fire. Hearing her screams, family members rushed to her aid, but Umesh jumped from the roof, sustaining severe injuries.


Victim Succumbs to Injuries

The severely burned woman was immediately taken to the hospital, but her injuries were too grave, and she succumbed during treatment. Umesh was also hospitalized at SN Medical College in Agra for his injuries before being sent to jail. The victim's husband filed a formal complaint against him.
