Dubai, Feb 28: Daryl Mitchell and Sobhana Mostary have been recognized with the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award following their impressive performances that led New Zealand to a remarkable ODI series victory in India, alongside Mostary's outstanding display at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.
Mitchell received the Player of the Month accolade for November 2022, outshining India's Suryakumar Yadav and England's Joe Root, who were also in contention. His pivotal role in the ODI series during New Zealand's tour of India was crucial for the team's success.
After New Zealand faced a 0-1 deficit in the three-match ODI series, Mitchell made a significant impact by scoring two consecutive centuries—131 not out in the second match and 137 runs in the third match. His efforts helped New Zealand secure a match-winning total of 337/8 in the final ODI, clinching the series 2-1.
For his remarkable performance in ODIs, Mitchell was named Player of the Series, amassing 352 runs at an impressive average of 176 runs per match, which also propelled him back to the top of the ICC ODI batting rankings. He continued to excel in the T20I series that followed, scoring 125 runs across five matches with an astonishing strike rate of 186.56.
On the women's side, Mostary also made headlines by playing a crucial role in Bangladesh's unbeaten run at the global qualifying tournament. She showcased her talent by scoring 229 runs in her first six matches of the tournament, averaging 45.80 with a strike rate of 145.85. Her consistent and aggressive performance distinguished her from other nominees, including Ireland's captain Gaby Lewis and Tara Norris.
