Police Encounter with Dacoits in Angul
Angul: In a dramatic turn of events, two armed robbers from Maharashtra sustained injuries during a confrontation with law enforcement in Odisha's Angul district, as reported on Thursday.
In addition to the injured duo, two other accomplices, also from Maharashtra, were apprehended following the incident.
The police, after reviewing CCTV footage, pursued a vehicle used by the suspects who had just stolen gold and silver jewelry from a shop in Talcher. The robbers were attempting to escape towards Sambalpur via NH-55 on Wednesday night.
The chase culminated near the Chuliapur jungle area under the Handapa police jurisdiction, where the suspects abandoned their vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
When the dacoits fired at the police, the officers returned fire in self-defense, resulting in gunshot wounds to the legs of two individuals, as stated by officials.
The injured were identified as Sachin Gajge and Prakash Madne, both of whom were transported to the Angul district hospital for medical care.
The other two suspects, Rajesh Madne and Deba Prabhakar Lokhande, were also taken into custody.
Most of the stolen jewelry was recovered, along with two homemade firearms, ammunition, and the vehicle used in the crime.
Authorities are continuing their search for an additional suspect who remains at large, and further investigations are ongoing.
