Dalhousie: Pankaj Kapoor, a well-known construction entrepreneur from Dalhousie, has reported to the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Chamba that a social media initiative has been launched to tarnish the reputation of his father, Tilak Raj Kapoor.
On August 19, a video appeared on a Facebook page making “false, fabricated, and baseless” claims against his father, according to Kapoor.
He asserted that the content was intentionally designed to harm both his family's personal image and his father's professional standing.
In his formal complaint, Kapoor requested that an FIR be filed under defamation and cybercrime laws.
He also urged the authorities to promptly block the “objectionable and defamatory” video to prevent its further spread.
Additionally, he called on law enforcement to obtain technical information from Facebook and internet service providers to trace the individuals behind the page.
“The intent is evidently malicious, and decisive legal measures are essential to halt such online harassment,” Kapoor stated in his complaint.
This incident highlights rising concerns in Himachal Pradesh regarding the misuse of social media for character assassination and unverified claims.
As political entities and individuals increasingly utilize digital platforms to voice their opinions, critics argue that the lack of stringent accountability often results in reputational damage and legal conflicts.
Police officials have acknowledged receipt of the complaint and confirmed that the issue is currently under investigation. “We are looking into the allegations, and appropriate actions will be taken according to the law,” stated a senior officer in Chamba.
