Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh), June 3: The Dalai Lama, the revered Tibetan spiritual leader, was officially awarded his Grammy at his residence on Wednesday. The presentation was made by the esteemed sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, who was accompanied by his sons, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash.

This prestigious award, which he received earlier this year in the category of ‘Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording’, honors the album titled “Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.” This work is a unique fusion of his insights on compassion, peace, and humanity's interconnectedness with Indian classical music.

The collaboration emphasizes the transformative power of music and wisdom in promoting inner peace and global understanding.

Amjad Ali Khan expressed his sentiments to the media, stating, “It’s a great honor to be here to present a Grammy Award to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.”

Upon receiving the award in February, the Nobel Peace Laureate remarked, "I accept this honor with gratitude and humility. I view it not as a personal achievement but as a recognition of our collective responsibility. I firmly believe that peace, compassion, environmental stewardship, and recognizing our shared humanity are vital for the well-being of all eight billion people. I am thankful that this Grammy recognition can help disseminate these messages more broadly.”

Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel took to social media to extend his congratulations to His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama for his Grammy win.

In his congratulatory message, the Speaker highlighted that His Holiness received his inaugural Grammy in the Best Audiobook, Narration and Storytelling Recording category, emphasizing the enduring impact of spoken words and storytelling in conveying wisdom and universal values.

Tibetan political leader Sikyong Penpa Tsering also shared his congratulations on social media, recognizing the Dalai Lama's achievement for his audiobook, Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

In his latest book, “In Voice for the Voiceless,” the Dalai Lama, regarded as a living embodiment of compassion, shares insights from his extensive interactions with China.

This book reflects on Tibet’s ongoing struggle for freedom and the challenges faced by his people in their homeland. It narrates his remarkable journey, illustrating the pain of losing one’s home to an oppressive force and the resilience required to build a life in exile, while addressing the existential crises of a nation, its culture, and its faith, and envisioning a hopeful future.

His Holiness was just 16 when Communist China invaded Tibet in 1950, met Chairman Mao Zedong in Beijing at 19, and fled to India at 25, becoming a leader in exile.
