Cycling for Fitness: Celebrating Fit India Sundays Across the Nation
A Day of Fitness and Fun
In a vibrant display of health and wellness, financial professionals and tax experts traded their usual tools for bicycles during the 81st Fit India Sundays on Cycle event held nationwide.
The event in Delhi took place at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium, kicking off early Sunday morning. By 5:30 AM, over 1,000 participants had gathered to engage in various fitness activities, including yoga, Zumba, and rope skipping, before embarking on a scenic 5-kilometer cycling route around India Gate.
Chartered Accountants Champion 'Fitness for All'
A dedicated game zone featuring board games like carrom and chess, along with fitness activities such as badminton and obstacle races, kept the younger crowd entertained. However, it was the chartered accountants who showcased remarkable enthusiasm, participating in everything from Zumba to yoga.
"The involvement of chartered accountants in Fit India Sundays on Cycle emphasizes that fitness is essential for everyone, not just athletes or celebrities. Our widespread participation across the country sends a clear message: fitness is for all. This initiative by the Sports Ministry uniquely unites individuals from diverse backgrounds and ages to promote a healthier India," stated Dr. Sambit Kumar Mishra, Deputy Director of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, after completing his ride.
Special Guests Praise the Initiative
The event featured notable guests, including Suman Devi Thoudam, an Asian Champion in hockey, and nutritionist Utkarsh Saxena, both of whom praised the initiative. Suman remarked, "The Fit India Movement, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has gained immense popularity. The participation of families and children in the Sundays on Cycle program reflects a growing interest in incorporating fitness into daily routines. Cycling is an accessible way to stay fit, requiring no expensive gym memberships or equipment; anyone can do it."
Suman, who officially launched the event, was accompanied by 2-year-old Dhaivik, the youngest cyclist present. "I truly appreciate the community spirit fostered by the Fit India Sundays on Cycle program," she added.
A Nationwide Celebration
The 81st Fit India Sundays on Cycle was celebrated not only in major cities like Lucknow and Hyderabad but also in smaller locations such as Androth in Lakshadweep and Golaghat in Assam, reaching over 2,000 sites across the country.
This initiative, envisioned by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with various organizations, including the Cycling Federation of India and Raahgiri Foundation. The cycling event is conducted simultaneously across all states and union territories, including SAI Regional Centres and Khelo India Centres.
