Significant Drug Bust at Mumbai Airport

In a significant operation, the Customs Department has confiscated hydroponic marijuana worth ₹8.6 crore at Mumbai Airport. This seizure occurred in two distinct incidents, leading to the arrest of three Indian nationals who had just returned from Bangkok.


Operation Based on Intelligence Reports

Officials from Mumbai Customs Zone-III acted on intelligence suggesting that certain passengers might be carrying illegal drugs. Consequently, heightened surveillance was implemented at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on June 2 and 3. On June 3, Customs officials intercepted two passengers from flight SL218 and one from flight VZ760. During questioning, the passengers exhibited suspicious behavior, prompting a thorough examination of their luggage.


Discovery of High-Quality Hydroponic Marijuana

Investigators uncovered a total of 8.6 kg of hydroponic marijuana in the passengers' bags. This cannabis, valued at ₹8.6 crore in the international market, was cultivated using advanced techniques. The three individuals were promptly arrested under the NDPS Act of 1985. Currently, they are being interrogated, and authorities are probing the drug smuggling network involved.
