Curiosity Arises Over Balloon Found in Assam's Cachar District

Discovery of a Balloon Sparks Local Interest

Silchar, Jan 11: On Sunday morning, a semi-deflated gas balloon was found in an agricultural field in the Borkhola area of Assam’s Cachar district, leading to a mix of curiosity and concern among the local populace. The district police acted promptly in response to the situation.

Upon receiving notifications from villagers, Cachar Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das arrived at the scene to assess the situation personally.

In a statement to local media, the SP reassured the community, indicating that there was no reason for alarm and that the balloon did not represent any security risk.

“Following our inspection, we have determined that the balloon does not pose any security threat. It was uncrewed and lacked any suspicious devices such as drones or cameras. There is no need for public panic,” Das stated, while noting that the incident would still be reviewed as part of standard procedures.

Initial theories regarding the balloon's origin suggested it might have floated in from across the international border.

This was later confirmed by Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Subrata Sen, who stated that the object was not associated with any hostile or surveillance operations.

Sen mentioned that images printed on the balloon indicated it was part of a school celebration.

“Preliminary checks suggest that the balloon was connected to the 65th anniversary of Gilachora High School in Sylhet district, Bangladesh,” he explained.

Authorities believe the balloon likely crossed the border due to wind patterns before landing in Cachar. Police have assured residents that the situation is completely under control and poses no danger to public safety.

While further investigations are underway to officially conclude the matter, officials have advised the public to remain calm regarding such occurrences, emphasizing that there is no evidence of a security breach or malicious intent.
