Crown Fire Erupts in Acton, Prompting Evacuations and Rapid Growth
Crown Fire Breaks Out in Acton
A rapidly spreading brush fire, identified as the Crown Fire, ignited on Friday morning in Acton, located in Los Angeles County. The blaze quickly expanded, leading to evacuation orders as it approached nearby buildings. The initial report of the fire came in around 11:25 AM, near the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Crown Valley Road. Fire crews discovered approximately 5 acres ablaze, with light fuels and winds exacerbating the situation by igniting spot fires ahead of the main fire.
Within a short time, the fire's intensity escalated. By 11:55 AM, it had expanded to 25 acres, prompting a second alarm as it continued to threaten structures. By 12:34 PM, officials estimated the fire's size at around 80 acres, with expectations of further growth.
Incident Command later reported that the fire had grown to about 250 acres, spreading at a moderate pace through light vegetation. Authorities cautioned that it could potentially reach up to 600 acres if conditions remain unchanged.
Firefighters have requested additional support, including two large air tankers, as they strive to contain the fire's spread. Evacuation orders have been issued for Zone LAC-E087, affecting areas near Soledad Canyon Road and Crown Valley Road. Residents in this zone are advised to evacuate immediately, gathering their families and pets, as remaining could pose significant risks.
Evacuation warnings are also in effect for Zones LAC-E086 and LAC-E089, with residents urged to be prepared to leave on short notice. Earlier warnings were issued for Zones LAC-E090 and LAC-E086, with officials recommending that individuals consider evacuating if they require additional time.
The fire has also caused disruptions to local transportation, leading to the shutdown of the AV Metrolink Line due to fire activity. As of the latest reports, the Crown Fire remains driven by wind, with no containment achieved, and crews are actively monitoring its growth and behavior.
