Court Ruling in Lakhimpur Kheri
In a significant ruling, a court in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for the murder of her husband following a domestic dispute. The court also imposed a fine of ₹15,000 on the convicted individual. This information was shared by the Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) Kapil Katiyar on Saturday.
According to ADGC Kapil Katiyar, the Additional District Judge (ADJ) Dinesh Kumar Gautam found the accused, Sunita, guilty of murder and announced the sentence on Friday.
The incident occurred on the night of November 16, 2013, in Rajapur Beni village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Mohammadi police station. A dispute arose between Sunita and her husband, Reetram, leading to a violent confrontation. During this altercation, Sunita attacked her husband with a sharp weapon, resulting in his death. At the time of the attack, Reetram was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
Following the incident, Reetram's nephew, Sarvesh, filed a murder complaint against his aunt Sunita with the police. ADGC Katiyar noted that during the court proceedings, several witnesses for the prosecution retracted their statements. However, the court ultimately convicted Sunita based on compelling scientific evidence and strong arguments presented by the prosecution.
