Kolkata, August 8: A tragic incident unfolded in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district on Saturday when a school headmaster was shot by unidentified assailants in broad daylight. The victim, Nazrul Islam, who served as the headmaster of a local school in Islampur, was attacked while commuting to work in the Madaripur area.


Medical Response and Investigation

After sustaining a gunshot wound, he was immediately taken to the Islampur Sub-Divisional Hospital and later transferred to a more advanced medical facility in Siliguri. Unfortunately, despite the medical team's efforts, he succumbed to his injuries around 1 p.m.


The Islampur police have initiated a thorough investigation into the shooting, currently reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity for potential leads. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.


Family's Grief and Community Reaction

The victim's daughter, Naina Khatun, expressed her family's shock, stating they could not understand why her father was targeted. “He was an honest man with no enemies. We are at a loss as to why this happened,” she remarked.


Ruksana Khatun, the deceased's wife, recounted that her husband was on a phone call with her when he was shot. “He informed me that he had been hit, but he couldn't tell me who did it,” she shared.


Colleagues and fellow educators were equally stunned by the news, describing Nazrul Islam as a dedicated and punctual teacher with no known conflicts.


Local witnesses noted that the headmaster, who lived in the Ambagan crossing area of Islampur, had no political ties. They reported that he was on his way to school when he was ambushed by unidentified individuals who fired several shots, one of which struck him, leading to his collapse on the street.
