Bhopal, April 3: A devastating road accident in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district resulted in the deaths of two young men and left four others, including a 14-year-old boy, with serious injuries. The incident occurred when an SUV lost control and crashed into the boundary wall of a marriage garden located on Ranipur Road.

The collision took place around 12:30 a.m. while the SUV was traveling from Sarni to Betul along the Sarni State Highway.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle was speeding when the driver lost control, likely due to slippery conditions caused by rain, leading to a violent impact with the wall of Man Mandir Lawn. The force of the crash caused a significant portion of the wall to collapse.

The victims have been identified as Prafull Thoke (25) and Puneet Thakre (25), both of whom died at the scene, according to police reports.

The injured individuals include Pappu Mohan (23), Prajapati Raju (26), Abhishek (26), and Sangam (14), all residents of the Arjun Nagar area in Betul.

It has been reported that the SUV was linked to a government office. Eyewitnesses promptly transported the injured to the district hospital in Betul, where they are currently receiving medical attention, with some in critical condition.

“Upon receiving the accident report, our police team quickly arrived at the scene. We have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. CCTV footage indicates that the Bolero was speeding prior to the crash. Initial assessments suggest that excessive speed and wet road conditions were significant factors. We are also looking into the vehicle's condition and the driver's actions,” stated Devkaran Dehariya, the investigation officer at Betul Kotwali Police Station.

Police sources noted that such accidents are increasingly common on this road due to high-speed driving at night, particularly when rain makes the surface slippery.

“Young drivers often fail to recognize the risks associated with wet roads. We urge all drivers to slow down during adverse weather and adhere to traffic regulations,” the officer added.

The police have filed a case and are continuing their investigation. The bodies of the deceased have been returned to their families following necessary procedures.
