Tragic Firecracker Factory Explosion Claims Five Lives in Madhya Pradesh

Dewas/Indore, May 15: The tragic explosion at a firecracker factory in Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh, has resulted in a total of five fatalities, as two more critically injured workers succumbed to their injuries during treatment, according to officials on Friday.
Government Response
Late Thursday night, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made an urgent trip from New Delhi to Indore to visit the injured at local hospitals. His first stop was Choithram Hospital, where he spoke with the victims of the explosion and provided directives to the medical staff caring for them.
Following this, he proceeded to MY Hospital to check on the health status of other injured individuals. CM Yadav reassured the victims and their families, stating, “The state government is dedicated to offering all possible support to those impacted by this disaster.”
He instructed medical personnel to ensure that all injured parties receive thorough and adequate medical attention. Demonstrating his commitment, CM Yadav canceled other scheduled appointments in Delhi upon learning of the incident.
Legal Actions and Investigations
The factory has been shut down, and the owner, Anil Malviya, has been arrested under the National Security Act (NSA). Authorities are also preparing cases against four other individuals, including three contractors linked to the factory, for alleged breaches of safety regulations as outlined in the Explosives Rules.
Ujjain Divisional Commissioner Ashish Singh has initiated a magisterial inquiry to determine the precise cause of the explosion, assess adherence to the Explosives Rules and the National Building Code-2016, and review the licenses granted for the factory's operation.
Ongoing Support and Safety Concerns
On Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister and district in-charge Minister Jagdish Devda visited the explosion site to evaluate the relief efforts with officials. He later met with the injured workers at Dewas District Hospital and Amaltas Hospital, affirming, “The state government is fully committed to supporting the affected families during this challenging time. We will ensure that every possible assistance and medical care is provided to the injured.”
Devda also emphasized that strict measures would be taken against anyone found negligent during the investigation. This incident has sparked renewed concerns regarding safety protocols and oversight of firecracker manufacturing facilities in Madhya Pradesh. The district administration has instructed relevant departments to enhance inspections and verify compliance with licensing and safety standards at all explosive manufacturing sites in the area.
