Fatal Electrocution in Jorhat
The deceased has been identified as Mahabir Kurmi (55), a resident of Bagdia in Titabor.
Jorhat, April 22: A tragic incident occurred in Jorhat on Wednesday when a worker from the power department lost his life due to electrocution while attempting to repair an 11,000-volt power line.
The victim, Mahabir Kurmi, aged 55, was a resident of Bagdia in Titabor.
Reports indicate that the accident took place near the Devakumar Bora Auditorium at Na-Ali in Titabor. Kurmi was working on the high-voltage line when he accidentally touched a live wire, resulting in electrocution.
There are claims that the power supply was not turned off during the repair work, which may have contributed to this tragic event.
The news of Kurmi's death has deeply affected the Titabor subdivision, leaving his coworkers in mourning.
In response to the incident, the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Titabor electrical subdivision expressed sorrow and mentioned that a fault had been reported around 5:30 PM in the Rongajan feeder.
“A team was working overnight to restore power but initially could not locate the fault. It was eventually detected near the auditorium,” the SDO stated.
He further explained that the incident occurred because the 11,000-volt line had not been deactivated at the time of the repair.
“Although efforts were made to initiate a shutdown, the mishap could have been prevented if the power supply had been disconnected promptly,” he added.
