Ranchi, May 15: A tragic incident unfolded in Jharkhand's Ranchi district where a 50-year-old man was reportedly killed by his brother-in-law using a sharp weapon and a stone during a domestic altercation, as confirmed by local authorities on Friday.
The incident occurred in Nichetoli village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Tamar police station. The victim has been identified as Gajendra Singh, who resided in Runia village in the adjacent Khunti district.
As per police reports, Gajendra had visited his in-laws' home on Thursday with his wife. Tensions arose when the accused, Bhupesh Khandit, allegedly monopolized the household utensils and refused to allow cooking, insisting that the guests leave.
The conflict intensified on Friday morning when Bhupesh's younger sister requested utensils to prepare food and fetch water. During a heated exchange with his sister, Bhupesh reportedly attacked Gajendra multiple times with a 'Dauli', a locally used sharp-edged tool, according to police.
Following the assault, Bhupesh allegedly struck Gajendra's head with a large stone found in the courtyard, resulting in immediate death.
Authorities noted that Bhupesh's younger sister sustained minor injuries while attempting to intervene and protect her husband.
After the incident, the accused reportedly barricaded himself in a room. Upon receiving notification of the murder, Tamar police station chief Praveen Kumar Modi and his team arrived at the scene, forced open the room, and apprehended Bhupesh.
Investigators revealed that Bhupesh had a prior criminal record, having served time for an attempted murder charge.
Given the severity of the situation, a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory in Ranchi was summoned to gather scientific evidence from the crime scene.
The body of Gajendra has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and police have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident and the underlying family tensions.
