Dhubri, May 11: A somber atmosphere enveloped Tamarhat in Dhubri district as the body of a six-year-old boy, missing since Saturday, was discovered on Sunday. This followed a collaborative search effort involving local residents and law enforcement.

The child has been identified as Hasidul Rahman, a first-grade student at Hatidhura Public School and the son of Kader Sheikh from Muslimpara village in Tamarhat.

Local reports indicate that Hasidul went missing after returning home from school on Saturday. It is believed that he ventured to bathe in a deep pit filled with water near his residence when the unfortunate incident occurred.

In response to his disappearance, a thorough search operation was initiated by community members in conjunction with the Tamarhat Police. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) also participated in the search, making significant efforts to locate the missing child.

After nearly a full day of searching, the boy's body was retrieved from the pit on Sunday, marking a heartbreaking conclusion to the search.

This incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who claim that the pit was excavated in an unsafe and unauthorized manner, lacking any protective barriers or warning signs.

Residents allege that the pit was dug by Abdul Hasib, a local from Dhuturamari village, and criticized the absence of safety measures, which they believe led to this tragic accident.

“Had there been proper barricades or warning signs, this tragedy might have been averted,” expressed a local youth, calling for a comprehensive investigation and accountability for those responsible.

The police have recovered the body and sent it to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Additionally, the Tamarhat Police have launched an inquiry into the events surrounding the incident, particularly focusing on whether negligence in the pit's excavation contributed to the child's death.
