Tragic Collapse at Dhubri Railway Station Claims Lives of Two Workers

Dhubri, May 27: A tragic incident unfolded at Bilasipara railway station in Dhubri on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of two construction workers and injuries to seven others when a water tank under construction collapsed.
The mishap took place while workers were involved in high-altitude tasks related to the construction of a large overhead water tank. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the bamboo scaffolding supporting the tank suddenly failed, leading to its collapse.
Sadly, two workers, Siddique Shaikh from Gaspara, Chapar, and Saiful Islam from Char Hatipota, lost their lives instantly as they were trapped beneath the falling structure. The injured individuals, identified as Bakkar Sheikh, Nazir Hussain, Abubakar Sheikh, Zahir Islam, Jabbar Sheikh, Enam Karim, and Nawab Ali, sustained serious injuries.
Railway personnel and nearby bystanders quickly responded to the scene, transporting the injured to Bilasipara Model CHC for medical attention.
The incident has ignited anger among local residents, the victims' families, and political factions, who are accusing the contractor, Saiful Islam (not related to the deceased), of neglecting essential safety protocols, including the provision of protective equipment and adequate structural safety measures.
Authorities, including police and an executive magistrate, arrived promptly to secure the area and commence legal procedures. There are growing calls for a comprehensive investigation, accountability for those at fault, and compensation for the families affected by this tragedy.
