Kolkata, Nov 4: A shocking incident unfolded in the Narayanpur area of Gangarampur, West Bengal, where a man was apprehended after allegedly murdering his wife. Witnesses reported that he emerged from a nearby temple holding her severed head, causing widespread panic among locals.
The suspect, Rintu Ghosh, was reportedly found seated inside the temple with his wife's head. Eyewitnesses described how he exited the temple, brandishing the head in one hand and a knife in the other, which sent bystanders fleeing in terror.
Authorities confirmed Ghosh's arrest and stated that he is currently being interrogated. The remains of his wife, identified as Seema Sarkar, were recovered, but the motive for the murder remains unclear.
Residents shared that Ghosh had previously worked as a bus conductor but had not been employed for several days prior to the incident, choosing to stay at home instead.
A neighbor recounted the morning's events, noting that Ghosh was seen inside the temple. Upon hearing his screams, others rushed outside, only to be met with the horrifying sight of him holding his wife's severed head.
Local residents quickly notified the police, who arrived from the Gangarampur police station and took Ghosh into custody. While some neighbors speculated that a marital dispute may have triggered the violence, law enforcement has yet to confirm any specific motive.
A relative, Rajesh Pramanik, revealed that the couple had two sons. He expressed his shock upon learning about the incident, stating, "I woke up and heard that he was sitting in the temple. Later, I heard that he had killed his wife and was sitting there with her head in his hand. I do not know what to say."
Pramanik mentioned that Ghosh had engaged in small business ventures after leaving his job, but he was uncertain about Ghosh's current activities. He also noted that Ghosh occasionally followed a vegetarian diet and exhibited behavior reminiscent of a tantric.
"He used to eat vegetarian food for some days. He used to act like a tantric. No one can figure out exactly why he did this," Pramanik added.
Investigators are continuing to question Ghosh to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
