His body was discovered the following morning near his uncle's house. The fatal shot was fired near his ear, and his body was wrapped in a cloth. Initially, his wife Lalita claimed that a local man had threatened Rishi over a mobile phone theft suspicion, leading to his murder.

It was revealed that she had been involved with Rishi's cousin even before their marriage, and this affair continued post-marriage, which Rishi had become aware of.
