Shalini had been married to Shanti's son four years prior.

The shocking event took place in the Kakori police jurisdiction, where Shanti Devi's health deteriorated after consuming the poisoned bread, leading to her death. Following suspicions raised by her husband, the police interrogated Shalini, who eventually confessed to the crime.
During questioning, Shalini revealed her affair with her nephew Karan, which her mother-in-law disapproved of. Shanti had previously attempted to prevent their meetings, leading Shalini to attempt to poison her mother-in-law with insecticide in her tea just ten days before the fatal incident.
Poisoned Bread Preparation
On April 5, Shalini admitted to mixing insecticide into the dough to prepare the bread. She mentioned that her minor cousin's house was nearby, from where she would procure the poison. Karan had allegedly instructed her to eliminate her grandmother and grandfather before they could be together.
Since Shanti's death, Karan has been on the run, and the police are actively searching for him. The authorities have exhumed Shanti's body for further investigation.
Background of the Marriage
Shanti's son, Manoj Rawat, married Shalini four years ago, and they had a son shortly after their marriage. Initially, everything seemed fine until Karan returned from Iraq in January and developed an attraction towards Shalini, leading to secret meetings and phone calls.
