Bengaluru, July 30: A tragic incident has unfolded in Bengaluru where a woman from Bihar was reportedly killed by her husband, who then concealed her body in a bedsheet and fled the scene. The crime went unnoticed for nearly five days until a foul odor emanating from their rented home alerted neighbors, according to police reports released on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Reema Kumari, while her husband, Dheeraj Kumar, is the main suspect. This incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Kumbalagodu Police Station, located near the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.

Authorities revealed that the couple had relocated to Bengaluru from Bihar about a year ago in search of job opportunities, working at a factory near Gerupalya. Investigators believe that Dheeraj Kumar may have committed the murder four to five days prior to the discovery of the body before returning to his hometown.

The grim situation came to light when Reema Kumari did not show up for work over several days. Concerned for her well-being, a colleague visited their residence on Thursday and detected a strong foul smell coming from inside.

The landlord was notified and opened the door, revealing Reema Kumari's body in an advanced state of decomposition, wrapped in a bedsheet and positioned near the toilet.

Initial investigations suggest that the murder likely occurred on Sunday. Neighbors reported that they had not seen Reema Kumari for four days but initially thought she was simply away.

Residents described the couple as amicable, noting that they had a love marriage before moving to Bengaluru to build a new life together. One local remarked, "They would leave for work around 8:30 a.m. and return in the evening. We never imagined something like this could happen."

Authorities suspect that Dheeraj Kumar fled to Bihar shortly after the incident. A manhunt is currently underway to locate and apprehend him.

Due to the significant decomposition of the body, it has been transferred to a mortuary for a postmortem examination. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity and collecting further evidence to determine the motive behind the murder.

Ongoing investigations are in progress.
