Bongaigaon, Oct 22: A somber atmosphere enveloped Bongaigaon following the discovery of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Khargeswar Rabha's body in a hotel room on Thursday morning. The officer, who was part of the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell, was found deceased in Room No. 102 of Hotel Jahnavi Regency, where he had been staying since October 18 for personal reasons.

The local police promptly recovered the body and have launched an inquiry to uncover the details surrounding his death. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nomal Mahatta visited the scene shortly after the incident was reported.

Speaking to reporters, Mahatta confirmed that Rabha had checked into the hotel alone and was on leave. He had last communicated with his wife on Wednesday morning, after which there was no further contact with his family.

“We were alerted this morning and rushed to the hotel. DSP Khargeswar Rabha, who was assigned to the CM Vigilance Cell, had been residing here since October 18. His body was discovered on the floor of the room,” Mahatta stated.

The SSP noted that Rabha seemed to have been unwell, but emphasized that the exact cause of death would be determined only after a comprehensive investigation.

“He was a committed officer with experience in the Special Branch and the CM Vigilance Cell. He arrived alone, driving his own vehicle. His body has been sent for a post-mortem, and his family is currently in Bongaigaon. We are maintaining communication with them,” Mahatta added.

Rabha had served in various districts across Assam and had previously been stationed in Bongaigaon. He was originally from Boko and lived at the Special Branch residential complex in Kahilipara, Guwahati.

The police are currently looking into the events leading up to this tragic incident, with the post-mortem results expected to provide clarity on the cause of death.

More information will be released as the investigation continues.
