Arrests Made Following Threat to Chief Minister

Morigaon, August 16: Authorities in Morigaon have apprehended four individuals, including a man whose Facebook account was reportedly used to issue a death threat against Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The detained individuals include Abdul Mutaleb, his father Abdul Khaleq, elder brother Abu Taleb, and another youth named Rashidul Islam, all hailing from Baralimari, as confirmed by police sources on Sunday.
Investigators are currently interrogating the four to clarify the details surrounding the alleged threat and to identify the person responsible for the post.
The arrests were made following a threatening comment that surfaced in the comments section of Sarma’s Facebook Live stream during his Independence Day speech on Friday.
This comment, attributed to an account under Mutaleb’s name, purportedly threatened the Chief Minister's life, claiming the act would be executed for a sum of Rs 1 crore.
Initially, Morigaon Police detained Mutaleb after the comment was flagged. His father, brother, and Rashidul Islam were later taken in for further questioning, according to the sources.
Mutaleb has refuted the allegations, asserting that his identity was misappropriated. He stated, “This is false. The person who actually did this should be investigated and arrested. I did not make the threat. Someone opened a fake account using my name and photograph and posted it. It is not my account.”
Working as a tailor, Mutaleb claimed that individuals with ill intentions had exploited his image to create the account and issue the threat. He added, “There is a sewing machine at my home and I work as a tailor. Some people with malicious intentions have used my photograph to do this. The police should investigate the matter properly and take action.”
He also mentioned plans to file a complaint with the police regarding the misuse of his identity.
Authorities are now working to determine whether the Facebook account indeed belongs to Mutaleb and who was responsible for the threatening comment.
